Miniature Hungarian Strudels

This is my Mother-in-Law's favorite dough. She filled these lovely pastries with prunes or apricots or cinnamon and raisins. These freeze beautifully, wrapped in double thicknesses of wax paper and then foil. Do not sprinkle with powdered sugar before freezing. Sprinkle with sugar after defrosted.

Cream Cheese Pastry:
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese
1 cup butter (2 sticks)
1 egg yolk
2 cups flour
1/8 teaspoon salt

In the large bowl of an electric mixer, beat together the butter and cream cheese until the mixture is blended. Beat in the egg yolk. Add the flour and salt and beat until blended. Do not overbeat. Turn dough out on a floured wax paper. Form dough into a circle, wrap it in the wax paper and refrigerate it for several hours or overnight.

Divide dough in fourths. Roll out one part at a time to measure a 10-inch square. Spread 1/4 of the Chocolate Quik over the dough. Sprinkle with 1/4 of the chocolate chips and optional walnuts. Roll it up, jelly-roll fashion to measure a 10x3-inch roll. Place seam side down on a 12x16-inch teflon-coated baking pan. Repeat with the remaining 3 parts dough.

Bake in a preheated 350° oven for 30 minutes or until the top is lightly browned. Cool in pan. Cut into slices and sprinkle tops generously with sifted powdered sugar. Yields 24 to 28 slices.
