Old-Fashioned Meat Loaf

Ground turkey can be substituted in this very juicy and succulent meat loaf. It is important to grate the onion. If you do not grate the onion, then minced it finely. Onion can be grated in a food processor.

Meat Loaf:
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 medium onion, grated. Reserve 2 tablespoons for the sauce.
4 slices egg bread, crusts removed. Dip in water and squeeze dry.
1 egg
1 clove garlic, pressed
salt and pepper to taste

Combine all the meat loaf ingredients and mix lightly, until thoroughly blended. Place meat mixture into a 9x5-inch loaf pan. Pour Tomato Sauce Topping on the top. Bake in a 350° oven for about 1 hour. Serves 6.

Tomato Sauce Topping:
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
2 tablespoons reserved grated onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon Italian Herb Seasoning
salt and pepper to taste

Stir together all the ingredients until blended.
