One could never guess that this sauce is so low in calories. It is flavored with fresh fruit and juice. However, the taste relies heavily on the spices. Serve over ice milk, pancakes, French toast or sponge cake.
1 apple, peeled, cored and grated
1 teaspoon butter or butter
1 cup unsweetened apple juice
1 cup fresh orange juice
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon sugar or honey
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon powdered cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
In a saucepan, sauté apple in butter
until softened. Stir together juices and cornstarch until blended.
Add to apple mixture with the remaining ingredients and simmer
mixture, stirring, until sauce is slightly thickened, about 10
minutes. Place in a jar with a tight-fitting lid and store in
the refrigerator. Yields about 2 1/2 cups sauce.
