
A wonderfully crisp cookie layer topped with a crunchy nut and chocolate topping is delightful with milk or coffee.
1/2 cup butter
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup flour
2 tablespoons cocoa, sifted
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup flour
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
3/4 cup flaked coconut
1 cup milk chocolate chips
Beat together butter and sugar until creamy. Stir in flour and cocoa until blended. Pat dough on the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, beat together sugar, vanilla, flour and eggs until blended. Stir in walnuts, coconut and chocolate chips. Spread mixture evenly over baked crust. Return to oven and continue baking for 25 minutes or until topping is set. Cut into squares when cool. Yields 4 dozen squares.
