Hors D'Oeuvres - Oldies but Goodies

Chili Meatballs in Mild Taco Sauce

1-1/2 pounds ground beef
1/2 cup grated onions
4 slices bread, crusts removed, soak in water and squeeze dry.
1/4 cup tomato sauce
1 tablespoon chili con carne seasoning
2 eggs
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste

Combine all the ingredients and blend thoroughly. Shape into 1/2-inch balls. Brown the meatballs in a large skillet, shaking the pan frequently so that the meatballs will brown on all sides. Use a little butter if the meat is very lean. Place the meatballs in a chafing dish and cover with Mild Taco Sauce. Makes about 50 to 60 meatballs.

Mild Taco Sauce

1 can (1 pound 12 ounces) stewed tomatoes, pureed in blender
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
1 package dehydrated onion soup
1 package taco seasoning
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon sugar
salt and pepper to taste

Combine all the ingredients and simmer over low heat for 30 minutes. Add meatballs and heat through.
