To make these into "Blondies", substitute butterscotch chips for the chocolate chips. Both versions are memorable.
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts
Beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Beat in eggs and vanilla until blended. Beat in remaining ingredients until blended.
Spread batter evenly into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan and bake in a 350° oven for about 30 minutes, or until top is golden brown. Do not overbake. Allow to cool in pan and cut into 1 1/2-inch squares. To serve, sprinkle lightly with sifted powdered sugar. Yields 48 squares.
