A Sedate & Proper Victorian Tea


World's Best Apricot Walnut Dainties

These dainty little chewies are tart, crunchy and delicious. Cut into small squares, they are perfect for afternoon tea.

1 cup butter (2 sticks), softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar

2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla

2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 package (6 ounces) dried apricots, chopped
1 cup chopped walnuts

Beat together butter and sugars until creamy. Beat in eggs and vanilla until blended. Beat in remaining ingredients until blended.

Spread dough evenly into a 10x15-inch jelly roll pan and bake in a 375° oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until top is lightly browned. Allow to cool in pan and cut into squares to serve. Sprinkle top lightly with sifted powdered sugar or drizzle with Lemon Glaze. Yields about 5 dozen cookies.

Lemon Glaze:
Stir together 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 1/2 cup sifted powdered sugar until blended. Add a little sugar or lemon juice to make glaze a drizzling consistency.
